First Interim Budget at Monday's board meeting

Posted Date: 12/13/24 (1:00 PM)

MUSD Community:

We are presenting our First Interim Budget at Monday's board meeting.  This is an opportunity for us to check in with our budget to see what progress we are making.  This particular First Interim is important for MUSD, as it is Tanya's and my first opportunity to work our way through the budget as a Superintendent/CBO team.

The good news is that we are able to certify our budget as positive.  This means that we project that we are able to meet the requirement of having 3% reserve for economic uncertainty for this school year and the next two school years.  There are two categories of bad news, though.

The first bit of bad news is that we still have a deficit elimination plan that we have to implement in order to reach this positive certification. The second bit of bad news is related, in that we continue to carry a structural deficit in our budget.  Put more simply, we have more expenses than we have revenues.  We are going to need to make reductions beyond what is included in our current deficit elimination plan.
We will hold budget information & input meetings when we return from Winter Break.  These will be opportunities for us to share more information with you and for you to share thoughts and ideas with us.  Middletown's unity is its strength.  Nobody gets into education because they want to make budget reductions.

Thank you for your continued support.
